January 22, 2025 (Tuesday): The Madeline Island Ferry Line has a unique challenge, as we cannot simply shut down operations, nor run at the same capacity as summer. During the ice-breaking season, we are only able to safely operate our two smallest boats, both of which have limited vehicle capacity. We are doing our best to accommodate as many customers as possible; however, oversized vehicles are quickly filling the boats. We understand that we are a vital part of the critical infrastructure of Madeline Island, and we are committed to being ready to transport resources, goods, services, and people to and from the Island. We take this responsibility very seriously. We kindly ask that you consider reducing your “footprint” to help us serve everyone more effectively. If possible, please consider taking a smaller vehicle, removing roof racks, carpooling or leaving a work vehicle on the Island.
Watch closely for important updates and information on the MIFL Website and Facebook page regarding trip cancellations due to weather and ice conditions.
If you are planning a trip to the Island, it is advisable to check for alerts about possible trip cancellations before you come and while you are staying on the Island.
