Big Bay Town Park

Located six miles from the ferry landing on Madeline Island . Family campground. Potable water, flush and pit toilets and pay showers. 61 campsites, including 22 sites with electric located across the road from the park entrance and 6 remote, tent only walk-in campsites along the Lagoon Ridge Trail. Camping rates are $33/night for no hookup sites and $40/night for electric only sites.  Picnic area with covered pavilion, fishing, canoeing and kayaking, swimming and sand beaches. Bridge spans beautiful lagoon. Owned/operated by Town of La Pointe.

Big Bay State Park 

Located 6 1/2 miles from the ferry landing on Madeline Island, the 2,350-acre park has a 1.5-mile beach, campground, picnic areas, and more than seven miles of hiking, boardwalk and nature trails. Within Big Bay State Park is a 440-acre sand spit and bog Wisconsin State Natural Area. Activities at Big Bay include camping, picnicking, hiking, snowshoeing, skiing, kayaking, fishing, swimming, hunting, interpretive programs, and more. The family campground has 60 sites (21 with electric and 7 walk-in tent only sites), flush toilets/showers and access to water hook-up.

Joni’s Beach

Located 1/4 mile from Madeline Island Ferry landing, the park offers a sandy beach and dock, playground, sheltered  picnic pavilion and public restrooms.

Harry E. Nelson Recreation Center

Located in downtown La Pointe offering public tennis courts, ballfield, playground,  covered picnic pavilion, and public restrooms.


Firewood Alert!! In order to prevent the movement of invasive forest insects and diseases, firewood burned in Wisconsin DNR campgrounds must originate from within the state and within 10 miles of the campsite. For additional information see Wisconsin DNR Firewood Rules and Resources . “Take home your memories, not gypsy moths!” Inspect your vehicle and outdoor articles for gypsy moth egg masses, remove and destroy them (burn or drown in water with a little bleach) before you leave the island. Thank you for helping keep Madeline Island free of invasive species!
